Indigenous knowledge is crucial to the future of humanity
The O futuro é indígena (the Future is Indigenous) project serves to remind people about the critical importance of indigenous communities across Brazil
To address the climate crisis it is going to take everything that we have. And one of our most powerful tools is humanity.
Whilst Indigenous communities are only 5% of the world's population, they protect 80% of global biodiversity. Indigenous communities across Brazil are under grave threat as they work tirelessly to protect their homes, cultures and the ecosystems on which we all depend.
WePresent exists to tell unexpected stories about creativity from artists all over the world.
Will you support Brazil’s Indigenous leaders in their fight to protect the planet? Your donations will strengthen Indigenous activism, build community, protect unique cultures and help restore ecosystems. Donate here. WeTransfer will match donations made via this link up to €20,000 euros.
The team recently launched a collaboration with documentary photographer Alice Aedy and Indigenous filmmaker Eric Terena to highlight the value systems protecting our future, reminding us that we can all play a role in helping to safeguard the future of these communities and our planet.
Indigenous peoples are the stewards of the Earth’s most critical biodiversity. The world’s largest interconnected communities of species live in our ancestral territories, and it’s our job to protect them.
Through O futuro é indígena, Eric and Alice want to remind people that “Indigenous peoples are the stewards of the Earth’s most critical biodiversity. The world’s largest interconnected communities of species live in our ancestral territories, and it’s our job to protect them”.
The project showcases portraits of participants, including celebrated activists, to put faces to these communities that are so important to the earth’s future, as well as shine a light on the daily challenges they face.
Addressing climate change
We’re working hard to whittle down our own carbon footprint, and we know we need to look beyond our own spreadsheets to make a real impact on addressing climate change.
The climate crisis is both revealing and worsening the world’s inequalities. Overwhelmed by the size and complexity of this emergency, many feel powerless—unable to face it. We need to make these issues tangible, understandable, and relatable, so that people feel equipped to resolve them. And we can do this together.
WeTransfer’s role in the world
As a B Corporation that believes Where creativity, technology, and empathy meet—that’s when we can help solve the planet’s greatest challenges. From the beginning, WeTransfer dedicates 30% of its advertising space for creatives & causes we care about. Which is why we’ve partnered with Earthrise to support Choose Earth. They are resourcing a network of frontline defenders - the real experts on environmental conservation - who are putting their lives at risk to protect the future of the planet.
The faces and voices of the Indigenous communities are featured in WePresent and a dedicated wallpaper to raise funds to support climate activists, halting deforestation, and sustaining communities.
Since the campaign launched in May, together with our community we’ve raised €14,000 and WeTransfer will double all donations up to a value of €20,000. The indigenous communities have full agency over how the funds are used as they know what is best and most needed within their communities at the time when funds are received.
