When sending a transfer, you can choose how recipients interact with your files. There are four options: preview and download, download only, preview only, and preview only with watermark.
The four view options
- Preview and download (default) — recipients can preview files (when supported) and download them.
- Download-only — recipients will only be able to download the files. File preview won't be available.
- Preview-only — recipients will only access a preview of the files. Downloading won't be possible.
- Preview-only with watermarks — recipients will only access a preview with a watermark overlay protecting your file ownership. Downloading won't be possible.
How to enable the watermark when sending
- Add your files as usual on wetransfer.com (currently only compatible with images and videos).
- Click the more options button next to the expiry date to open the settings panel.
- Under View options, click the dropdown and select Preview only with watermark.
- Click Get a link (or Send email) to send your transfer as normal.
Recipients will see your files with a watermark across them and won't have the option to download anything.
How to update the view option after sending
You can change the view option on a transfer at any time after sending.
- Go to Transfers in the top navigation.
- Find your transfer and click on it to open the details panel.
- Under Extra settings > View options, select a different option.
The change takes effect immediately — recipients will see the updated version next time they open the link.
A few things to know about watermarks
- The watermark is applied by WeTransfer on behalf of the sender — if a recipient sees a watermark, it means the sender chose that setting.
- Watermarks apply to image and video previews only. Other file types won't show a preview or watermark.
- Recipients cannot download the original files when preview only with watermark is active.
