How do I send a transfer?

You can send a transfer from your desktop, mobile browser, or our mobile app. Add your files, choose between an email or link transfer, and click Transfer.

Email transfer

Enter your email address and your recipient's address, add your files, and click Transfer. Once your files are uploaded, you'll receive a confirmation email and your recipient will receive a download link by email. You'll get a second confirmation when they download.

Recipients won't see each other's email addresses — each email is sent separately.

Link transfer

With a link transfer, you upload your files and receive a shareable link instead of WeTransfer sending emails on your behalf. You're responsible for sharing the link with your recipients however you choose.

To switch to link transfer, click the ellipsis icon in the bottom-left corner of the transfer window and select the link transfer option. After uploading, copy the link and share it wherever you like.

On your desktop browser

Go to wetransfer.com, click + to add files, fill in recipient details (or switch to link transfer), and click Transfer. This is the recommended way to send larger transfers.

On your mobile browser

  1. Go to wetransfer.com on your mobile browser.
  2. Tap Upload files and select the files from your gallery or file folders.
  3. Give your transfer a title and message if you like.
  4. Choose between Email transfer or Get a link.
  5. If you don't have a WeTransfer account, you'll need to verify your email before sending.

Note: emojis won't display if you enter them into the message field on mobile web.

On the iOS app

  • Tap the floating blue (+) button after signing in.
  • Upload files from your Camera, Photo & Video Library, or your File storage.
  • Review the selected files — delete any you don't want — then proceed to the uploader.

With a WeTransfer subscription, you can send larger transfers, change the expiry date, and add password protection from within the iOS app.

On the Android app

Open the WeTransfer Android app, tap the + button, select your files, fill in recipient details (or switch to a link transfer), and tap Transfer.

Adding multiple recipients

On desktop, you can paste multiple email addresses into the recipient field in any of these formats:

  • Separated by a space
  • Separated by a comma
  • Separated by a comma and space
  • Wrapped in apostrophes and separated by a space

Free accounts can send to up to 10 recipients per email transfer. Paid plans support up to 50 recipients. With link transfers, there's no recipient field. On mobile browser, you can add up to 3 recipients without logging in.

Uploading folders (desktop)

Drag and drop a folder onto the transfer window, or click 'Or select a folder' within the transfer window.

If preserving your folder structure is important, zip the folder before uploading — WeTransfer will otherwise flatten the contents into a single zip file.

Note: in Safari, the 'Or select a folder' option isn't shown. Use drag and drop, or click the (+) button and select a folder manually.

Will my files be deleted from my device?

No — WeTransfer uploads a copy of your files to our servers. Your originals stay on your device. Once a transfer expires, the copy on our servers is deleted, but your local files are unaffected.
