Adding a price to your transfers

With WeTransfer's Paid Transfers, you can set a price on any transfer and accept payments via Stripe. Here's how to set up, share your paid transfers, and answers to common questions.

Connect to Stripe

To enable adding a price and accept payment, first connect your WeTransfer account to Stripe via Account Settings > Integrations > Connect Stripe.

You'll be asked to fill out the payment information for your Stripe business account. If you already have a Stripe account, use your login credentials to populate the new business account automatically; it'll be linked to your primary account. Once created, your Stripe account will automatically connect to your WeTransfer account.

Add a price to your transfer

There are two ways to add a price:

  • From the transfer window: upload your files, select the three dots in the transfer window, and choose Request Payment.
  • From the Transfers panel: after generating a link transfer, you can add a price from the Transfers panel.

Share your paid transfer

Just like any other transfer, you can use the transfer link in a few different ways:

  • Share the link directly with a buyer who's already interested, or as a pre-arranged delivery method for your asset.
  • Copy/paste the link in emails to an established community that already knows what you offer.
  • Copy/paste a link to your website or social media — great for creators with a portfolio site who want to monetize without rebuilding.

Do I need a Stripe account?

Yes. Stripe is currently the only payment provider we support. You can connect using an existing Stripe account or create a new one during setup.

Can I adjust my price after sending?

Yes. Go to the Transfers tab > Sent, select a transfer, go to the transfer details page, click the link to change the price, enter the new price, and click the tick icon to save.

Can I offer a discount or voucher?

We do not currently offer the ability to create a discount or voucher.

What is the minimum and maximum price?

You can charge a minimum of $0.99 and a maximum of $999,999 for your files.

What are the file size limits?

Same as for transfers without a payment request — file sizes are limited by the plan you're on.

How do payouts work?

Stripe handles all payment information and funds directly. Payouts are typically distributed between 2 and 7 business days, depending on the seller's country. Payouts are transferred to the bank account used during your Stripe business account setup.

What currencies are supported?

Stripe supports processing charges in 135+ currencies. Stripe automatically converts the price to the customer's local currency based on their location.

How do I issue a refund?

Stripe helps you manage refund issues. You can partially or fully refund any successful payment received for a transfer. Refunds use your available Stripe balance — if your balance doesn't cover the refund, Stripe debits the remaining amount from your bank account. View all refunds on the Payments page in your Stripe Dashboard.

Can I track download activity?

Yes. Go to Transfers > Sent, locate the transfer, and tap to open the details page. You'll see the total number of times the transfer has been downloaded.

Are payment requests free to use?

As of December 2024, we no longer charge any fees for selling your digital products with WeTransfer. Stripe has its own set of fees that apply depending on your location.

Can buyers purchase from a mobile device?

A buyer can pay for and download a transfer in their mobile browser. However, we currently don't support setting a payment for transfers in the mobile browser or app for sellers — sellers must create paid transfers on their desktop.

Are my files protected?

Once the buyer has paid, the download link is available for 24 hours, preventing a buyer from sharing the link with others. After 24 hours, the buyer goes through the authentication flow again — they click the link in the order confirmation email, and if WeTransfer recognizes the same device and email used to purchase, they get instant access. Otherwise, a new download link is emailed to them.

I paid for a file. Can I cancel my order?

If you would like to cancel your purchase or receive a refund, you'll have to contact the seller directly.
