Why am I being asked to authenticate my payment?

Since September 14, 2019, an EU regulation called Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) ensures your card payments are kept as secure as possible.

Why this happens

This is part of a wider range of EU directives known as PSD2. You may be required to authenticate your card payment for a WeTransfer subscription — for new payments, reactivations, when updating your payment details, or even when your subscription is set up to renew automatically.

What to expect

The authentication process may vary, as it is a step required by your bank or card issuer. In most cases, this will take the form of a push notification or SMS message from your bank. If you do not pass this authentication step, your payment will be declined.
