Akvile Magicdust wins 2017 ELCAF x WeTransfer Award

The Lithuanian comics artist Akvile Miseviciute, also known as Akvile Magicdust, will publish her first book after winning the annual award organised by WeTransfer and the East London Comic Arts Festival (ELCAF). The announcement was made in London on the final day of this year’s ELCAF on Sunday, June 18.

Akvile, who makes a weekly comic for Vice called Lucy the confused girl, will now work on a book which will launch at next year’s ELCAF in London.

Rob Alderson, editor-in-chief at WeTransfer: “This award is all about working with artists to make their passion projects possible. The standard of submissions was really high, but the way Akvile tells stories which touch on big themes in a very lighthearted way makes her a really exciting winner.”

The ELCAF x WeTransfer Award was launched in 2016. It offers a 3,500 GBP grant to print, publish and promote a book which would not otherwise exist. It is open to anyone who has exhibited at ELCAF since it launched in 2012.

The first winner of the award was London-based artist Nicolas Burrows, of the Nous Vous collective. His book The Elephant Hotel, launched at this year’s ELCAF.
