Having trouble with a download? Below are the most common issues and how to fix them on desktop, iOS, and Android.
Desktop browser
WeTransfer downloads run through your browser, so progress won't appear on WeTransfer.com itself. If it looks like nothing is happening, check your browser — the download has likely already started.
- If you're on a company computer or network, contact your IT department to confirm WeTransfer isn't blocked.
- Make sure you have a stable internet connection.
- Make sure your device doesn't go to sleep, and don't close the browser during the download.
- Check transfer size and make sure you have enough storage space.
- Restart your computer and modem/router.
- Clear your cookies and cache (will remove auto-filled emails and preferences).
- Update your operating system and browser to the latest versions.
- Try a different up-to-date browser or incognito mode.
- Temporarily disable your firewall, antivirus, VPN, and browser extensions one by one.
iOS app
- Check that you have the latest app version from the App Store.
- Check you have enough storage on your device.
- Check you have a steady connection — try both Wi-Fi and mobile data.
- Make sure your battery isn't low.
- Restart your phone and try again.
- Log out of the app and log back in.
Android app
- Check for app updates in the Google Play Store.
- Try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
- Check device storage space.
- Restart your device and try again.
- If a zipped file won't open, install WinZip for Android from the Google Play Store and use it to extract the contents.
- If a media file won't play, install VLC Media Player for Android, which handles a wide range of formats.
I can't find my downloaded files
- Web browser: files are saved to your Downloads folder by default.
- iOS: when you tap Save to Files, you can choose iCloud Drive or On My iPhone.
- Android: downloaded files are saved to the Files or Downloaded section of your device.
Files missing from my downloaded transfer
Some files may be hidden. On Mac, open the folder in Finder, then press Command + Shift + . (period) to show hidden files. On Windows, open File Explorer, then select View > Show > Hidden items.
I can't open or play the downloaded files
Usually this means you don't have the required software to open the file type. For media files, VLC Media Player handles most formats and is available for Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android. If files are 0 KB or unusually small and won't open, the sender may have accidentally sent the wrong or hidden files — ask them to resend.
External download managers
External download managers (such as Internet Download Manager, Folx) are not supported. Download files directly through an up-to-date browser like Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari.
