Why am I receiving unwanted transfers (I have a subscription)?

If you’re receiving transfers from people you don’t know and you have a subscription, you are most likely receiving these transfers through your personal WeTransfer URL. This is usually because someone has found your URL online and is using it by mistake.

We understand that receiving unsolicited transfers can be confusing or frustrating. Here’s why it can happen and what you can do.

Why am I receiving unwanted transfers?

Your personal WeTransfer URL is not directly indexed by search engines like Google. This means people cannot normally find it by searching for your URL.

However, if you have shared your personal URL publicly — for example, on social media, your website, or a forum — the page where you shared it may be indexed by search engines. As a result, people searching for WeTransfer may find that page and end up using your personal URL by accident instead of the main WeTransfer website.

If you want someone to send files to you, we recommend using WeTransfer’s file request feature instead of sharing your personal URL publicly.

How can I stop receiving unwanted transfers?

If your personal URL has been shared publicly and you’re receiving unwanted transfers, we recommend changing your personal URL.

You can learn how to update it here: How to claim or change your custom WeTransfer URL

After changing your URL, only people with your new URL will be able to send transfers to you through that channel.
