Do you alter or look at my transferred files?

The only thing we do is zip your files, to smoothen both the upload and download.

Encryption and access

  • You're the owner of your files and therefore the only one responsible for what's being uploaded.
  • To ensure protection, files are encrypted when they're being transferred (TLS) and when they are stored (AES-256).
  • Once your files are safely stored, they can only be accessed using the unique links sent to the sender and receiver.

Why we might look at files

We're always looking for ways to improve the WeTransfer platform by better understanding our customers' behaviors and needs. To unlock these insights, we ask your permission to look at the kind of content you're transferring.

The team periodically reviews a selection of transfers to identify interesting trends and insights that we can use to develop a product strategy in sync with your needs. Beyond that, your transferred content remains entirely your own: we never sell or share your data, and everything stays securely within WeTransfer.

The only time we might interfere with what you're sending is if your content is in conflict with our Terms of Service or our Content Moderation policy.

Giving or revoking permission

We require explicit consent — unless you give your permission, we won't look at your files. Give permission by selecting 'I agree' on the relevant pop-up. You can give or revoke permission in the Profile and security page of your Settings, under Data Processing. Revoking removes access to any past or future transfers.
