Someone unauthorized has access to my WeTransfer account

If you think someone has accessed your WeTransfer account without your permission, or you see a transfer you do not recognize, follow these steps to secure your account.

Secure your account

  1. Log in to your WeTransfer account.
  2. Go to Account Settings > Profile and Security.
  3. Choose log out all active users to remove access from other devices.
  4. Change your password.
  5. Enable two-factor authentication for an extra layer of security.

If you see unknown transfers in your Sent Transfers list, go to the Transfers tab and delete them.

A common reason someone can access an account is that it was left signed in on a shared or public computer, or login details were saved in a browser.

To keep your account secure:

  • Log out of shared or public devices.
  • Do not save passwords on devices others can access.
  • Use a unique password.
  • Enable two-factor authentication.

I received a verification code I did not request

If you received a WeTransfer verification code but did not try to send a transfer, someone may have entered your email address by mistake.

A transfer cannot be sent using your email address without entering the verification code, so no transfer has been made unless the code was used.

If you do not use WeTransfer, you can block emails from noreply@wetransfer.com. Remember to unblock this address if you use WeTransfer in the future.

Someone sent a suspicious transfer from my email address

If your contacts received a suspicious transfer from your email address, your email account or device may have been compromised.

To send a transfer, WeTransfer requires access to the verification code sent to your email inbox. If someone sent a transfer without your knowledge, they may have access to your email account or computer.

To secure your email account:

  • Change your email password.
  • Enable two-factor authentication with your email provider.
  • Check your email account for unknown devices or suspicious activity.
  • Remove any suspicious apps or software.

If you suspect malware on your device, a factory reset may be required.

I received a transfer meant for someone else

Sometimes this happens because someone entered an incorrect email address.

This is especially common with Gmail, where addresses with or without dots are treated as the same account. For example:

These both go to the same Gmail inbox.

Receiving an unexpected transfer does not mean someone has access to your email account or files. It is usually caused by a typo.
