2003 — 2006

Between the years of 2003 and 2006 photographer Jamie-James Medina documented the emergence of a new era of music born in London, one that would go on to become the defining sound of a generation: grime.

From being in the studio with Dizzee Rascal as he recorded the seminal album “Boy in da Corner” to early raves with Wiley and Skepta, to scaling tower blocks for now iconic death-defying shots, Medina was present, always with a camera in hand, to capture music history as it happened.

Produced in collaboration with WePresent, the arts platform of WeTransfer, “Hate Is A Strong Word” brings all of Medina’s photographs together for the first time.
