No. WeTransfer sends your files in their original format without any re-encoding, compression, or quality loss. Your RAW files — whether ARW, NEF, CR2, DNG, or any other format — arrive at your client exactly as they left your camera or editing software. The only zipping that happens is for the download bundle itself, and that is lossless, so the actual file data is never altered.
Yes, for supported RAW formats including ARW, NEF, CR2, CR3, DNG, RAF, RW2, and ORF, clients can view a preview directly in the browser without downloading anything. The preview renders at a slightly reduced resolution so the experience is fast, but the files they download are always your full originals. This means a client can confirm you have sent the right selects from a shoot before committing to a large download.
You have a couple of options depending on how much control you need. Adding a password to a transfer means only someone who knows it can access the download link — you share the password with your client separately. If you want tighter control, enabling restricted access lets you specify one or more email addresses, and only someone who verifies with a matching address can open the files. Both options are available on all plans and can be set before you send or adjusted afterwards from your transfers panel.
Before sending, enable download tracking in the transfer settings. Once active, you will receive a notification when a client downloads the transfer, and for email transfers you can see a per-recipient checkmark with the exact date and time. This removes the need to chase clients for confirmation and gives you a clear record of delivery — useful for professional handoffs where timing matters.
WeTransfer supports folder uploads, so you can send an entire shoot folder and your client will receive it with the original folder structure intact. On the Ultimate plan there is no per-transfer size cap, making it practical to deliver a full session in one go. If you are on the free plan, transfers are capped at 3 GB per transfer, so larger shoots may need to be split or you can consider upgrading for the convenience of a single delivery.
