File delivery built for newsrooms and media teams

Journalists, editors, and producers move fast, and the files they trade are rarely small. WeTransfer lets you address a transfer to one person or an entire editorial team, attach a note, and deliver a direct download notification to every inbox, all without touching your email client's attachment limits or degrading a single frame of footage.

Deliver files to any inbox

News and media work runs on files that standard email was never designed to carry: raw broadcast footage, high-resolution photography, audio packages, graphics, layered design files, and dense PDF reports. WeTransfer hosts your upload and routes a clean download notification straight to each recipient's inbox, so the handoff between photographer and picture desk, reporter and editor, or producer and broadcast team is instant and friction-free. Every file lands exactly as it left your machine, with no re-encoding, no resolution loss, and no compression artifacts, whether you are sending a 4K rushes package or a folder of camera-ready images. A title and message field travels with every transfer, giving recipients the story slug, deadline, or editorial brief before they click anything. For embargoed content, exclusive material, or source documents that need to stay off the record, password protection and per-address access restrictions give you precise control over who can reach your files.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

WeTransfer supports virtually every file type that news and media teams work with: video in any format including 4K, RAW and edited photography, MP3 and WAV audio packages, PDFs, InDesign and Photoshop files, ZIP archives, PowerPoint decks, and more. Files are sent exactly as uploaded with no re-encoding or quality loss, so broadcast-quality footage and print-ready images arrive intact. You can also upload and send entire folders, preserving the original structure for multi-asset packages.

Rather than attaching files directly, WeTransfer hosts your upload on its servers and sends each recipient a notification email with a one-click download link. Their inbox gets a lightweight message, not a multi-gigabyte attachment that triggers size limits or spam filters. Recipients can download everything at once or preview individual files in-browser before downloading, which is useful when a photo editor needs to select only specific frames from a large set.

Yes. When sending by email, you can address a transfer to multiple recipients in one go, and each person receives their own download notification. Free accounts support up to 10 recipients per transfer, while paid plans raise that to 50. If you need to distribute to a wider audience, such as a press release with accompanying assets, a link transfer gives you a single shareable URL with no recipient cap that you can drop into a group email or messaging thread.

WeTransfer gives you two layers of control beyond standard email delivery. You can lock any transfer with a password and share it with recipients separately, so only those who have both the link and the password can access the files. For tighter control, the restricted access option limits downloads to a specific list of email addresses, meaning anyone else who lands on the link is blocked. Both options are available on all plans.

Yes. For email transfers, your Transfers panel shows a downloaded status per recipient, and you can hover over a recipient's address to see the exact date and time they collected the files. On paid plans, tracked downloads add an email verification step and send you a detailed notification each time someone accesses the transfer, which is useful when coordinating time-sensitive materials across bureaus or external contributors. You can also enable this on link transfers to see who picked up a shared package.
