When your files are too big to attach

Email attachments have a low ceiling, and hitting it means bounced messages, stripped files, or asking recipients to jump through hoops. WeTransfer lets you add as many addresses as you need, upload your files, and deliver a personal download notification to every inbox on your list. The files are hosted securely and recipients get straight to them with one click.

Deliver files to any inbox

Sending large files by email usually ends one of two ways: the attachment gets blocked, or you end up sharing a cloud link that asks the other person to sign in before seeing anything. WeTransfer takes a different approach, hosting your files and sending each recipient their own download notification so everything lands cleanly in their inbox. You can add a title and a personal message to the transfer, giving people context about what they're receiving before they click through. Files are delivered exactly as you sent them, with no compression, no re-encoding, and no changes to the original, whether you're sharing design work, audio, documents, or raw footage. For anything sensitive, a password keeps the transfer locked, and you can restrict access to a named list of email addresses so only the intended people can get through.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

When you attach a file to an email, it has to pass through your mail client's size limit, your recipient's server limit, and their inbox storage, any of which can block or strip the file entirely. WeTransfer hosts your files separately and sends each recipient a notification email with their own download link, so nothing touches the attachment limit. The email stays light and the files arrive intact.

No account is needed on the recipient's side. They click the download link in their notification email, accept the terms, and the files are theirs. There is nothing to install and no sign-up prompt standing between them and the files you sent.

With a free account you can add up to 10 email addresses to a single transfer, and each person receives their own notification email with an individual download link. On paid plans that limit extends to 50 recipients per transfer. If you need to share with a wider audience, a link transfer gives you a single URL you can paste into any email, message, or document with no recipient cap.

WeTransfer handles any file type, including videos, images, audio, PDFs, design files, Office documents, 3D and CAD files, and ZIP archives. Free accounts can send up to 3 GB per transfer. On Ultimate and above there is no per-transfer size cap, so even very large files or dense project folders go through without splitting or compressing.

Yes. In your Transfers panel each sent transfer shows whether it has been downloaded, and for email transfers a checkmark appears next to each recipient's address once they complete the download. Hover over it to see the exact date and time. If you need more detail, you can enable download tracking before sending, which sends you a notification each time someone accesses the transfer.
