WeTransfer places no restrictions on file type, so you can send CAD files, 3D models, simulation outputs, point cloud data, technical drawings, PDFs, ZIP archives, spreadsheets, and more. Files are transferred without any compression or re-encoding, meaning recipients receive them in exactly the same condition as they left your workstation. For very large payloads such as full project packages or BIM models, an Ultimate plan removes the per-transfer size cap entirely.
Yes. Add as many recipient addresses as your plan allows directly in the transfer window, and WeTransfer sends each person an individual download notification pointing to the same hosted files. Free accounts support up to 10 email recipients per transfer; paid plans support up to 50. If you need broader distribution, a link transfer generates a shareable URL you can paste into any project management tool, email thread, or messaging app, with no recipient cap.
WeTransfer offers two layers of access control you can apply before or after sending. Password protection requires recipients to enter a password you share separately before they can download. The Restricted access option goes further, limiting downloads to a specific list of email addresses, so only verified individuals on that list can open the files. Both options work on all plans and are particularly useful for tender submissions, confidential client deliverables, or proprietary design data.
On a Free account, transfers are available for up to 3 days from the moment they are sent. On an Ultimate plan, you can set a custom expiry window or keep files available indefinitely, which suits longer review cycles or phased handovers common in engineering projects. You can also adjust the expiry date on an active transfer at any time from your Transfers panel if a deadline shifts.
Basic download tracking is available on all plans. In your Transfers panel, each sent transfer shows whether recipients have downloaded, and for email transfers a timestamp appears next to each address once they do. If you need a fuller audit trail, enabling Tracked downloads prompts recipients to verify their email before accessing the files, and you receive a detailed notification each time someone downloads, showing exactly who accessed the transfer and when.
