Yes. WeTransfer hosts your files and sends each student a notification email containing a personal download link, so large video or audio files never run into email attachment limits. Files are delivered in their original quality, with no re-encoding or resolution loss, whether you are sending a recorded lecture, a podcast-style audio brief, or a screen-capture walkthrough. Students do not need a WeTransfer account to download what you send them.
On a free account you can include up to 10 email addresses per transfer, which covers most small-group or departmental sends. Paid plans raise that ceiling to 50 recipients per email transfer. For broader distribution across an entire cohort, you can also generate a shareable download link and post it to your learning management system or class communication channel, with no recipient cap on link transfers.
WeTransfer gives you two layers of control beyond standard delivery. Password protection lets you lock a transfer so only recipients who know the password can access the files, and you share that password through a separate channel. Restricted access goes further, limiting downloads to a specific list of email addresses you define, so even someone who obtains the link cannot open the files unless their address is on your list. Both options are available on all plans.
Every transfer has a title and message field you can fill in before sending. Use it to specify the module name, assignment deadline, submission format, or any other guidance students need before they download. The information appears in the notification email they receive and on the download page, so there is no need to send a separate follow-up message.
WeTransfer tracks download activity for all email transfers. In your Transfers panel, each sent transfer shows a status label indicating whether it has been downloaded, and a checkmark appears next to each recipient's email address once they download, with the exact date and time visible on hover. You can also enable the download tracking option before sending for more detailed per-recipient notifications. This works on all plans and requires no extra setup beyond enabling the feature at the time of sending.
