One link, instant access

Sharing video files is where WeTransfer quietly earns its reputation. Upload your footage and copy the link WeTransfer generates, then drop it into a text thread, a client email, a social caption, or wherever the conversation is already happening. Your video travels exactly as it was recorded — no re-encoding, no resolution loss, no quality trade-offs, whether you are sending a 4K edit, a rough cut, or a finished broadcast file. Recipients can also preview video directly in the browser before committing to a download, so they can confirm it is the right cut without pulling the whole file. For anything confidential, you can lock the link with a password or restrict access to specific email addresses before you share it.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

No. WeTransfer does not re-encode, compress, or alter your video in any way. Whatever you upload — 4K footage, RAW camera files, high-bitrate edits — downloads on the other end in exactly the same condition. The only exception is the browser preview, which renders at a slightly lower resolution so it loads faster, but the actual downloaded file is always the original.

Yes. Recipients can preview MP4 and MOV files (up to 300 MB) directly in the browser without downloading anything or creating an account. They can also leave comments on individual files and mark favorites, which is handy when you are sharing multiple cuts and want feedback before the recipient commits to a full download.

WeTransfer supports any file type you can upload, so you are not restricted to a specific container or codec. MP4 and MOV are the formats supported for in-browser preview. For everything else — MXF, ProRes, AVI, and other professional formats — recipients download and play the file locally. Nothing is converted on the way.

There is no recipient limit on a link transfer — you can share the URL with as many people as you like and everyone can download from it. If you want to keep tighter control, you can restrict access to a specific list of email addresses so only approved recipients can get through the link.

Yes. Download tracking is available on all plans and must be turned on explicitly before you send. Once enabled, you can see who downloaded your transfer and when from your Transfers panel. For more granular control, the Tracked downloads option requires recipients to verify their email address before downloading, giving you a named record of every person who accessed your video.
