Once the upload finishes, WeTransfer gives you a unique URL you can copy and paste into any email, messaging thread, or collaboration tool. Anyone who receives the link can download from their browser without a WeTransfer account.
Yes. Before sending, enable the Restricted downloads option in the transfer settings and add the email addresses that should have access. Anyone else who opens the link will be turned away after email verification fails to match your list. This is useful for sharing confidential reports, tender documents, or audit findings with a defined group of stakeholders.
No. WeTransfer sends every file in its original condition with no re-encoding, no compression, and no quality changes. Your formulas, embedded data, named ranges, and page layouts arrive exactly as they were on your machine. This applies equally to presentations, ZIP archives of working papers, and any other file type you include in the transfer.
Link-based transfers have no recipient cap, so you can share one URL with an entire client team, a review committee, or a distribution list and everyone can download from it. If you also want visibility into who accessed the files, you can enable download tracking before sending, which logs each download with the recipient's verified email address and timestamp.
On the Free plan, links stay active for up to 3 days. On Ultimate and above, you can set a custom expiry or keep a transfer available indefinitely, which gives you control that matches longer engagement timelines or multi-phase audit cycles. Once a transfer expires, the files are removed from WeTransfer's servers, and recipients can no longer download. Ultimate users can also recover expired transfers when needed.
