WeTransfer accepts any file type, so a single transfer can include financial spreadsheets, PDF reports, Word workpapers, PowerPoint presentations, data exports, scanned documents, and even large archive files. Files are sent in their original format with no compression or quality changes, so a precisely formatted audit report or a complex Excel model arrives exactly as it left your machine.
No. Recipients never need a WeTransfer account to download a transfer. They click the link or the button in the notification email and their files are ready. This matters in client-facing work, where asking external stakeholders to create accounts adds unnecessary friction before they can access a deliverable.
You have two options. You can add a password to the transfer before sending — only recipients who have the password can access the files, and the password is not included in the notification email, so you share it through a separate channel. Alternatively, you can enable restricted access and specify a list of email addresses, so only those exact addresses can open the transfer after verifying their identity. Both options are available on all plans.
The free plan allows transfers up to 3 GB in total per transfer, and you can include as many individual files and folders as fit within that size. On a free account you can send up to 10 transfers per rolling 30-day window. If your project package regularly exceeds 3 GB or you need transfers that stay active longer than 3 days, WeTransfer Ultimate removes the per-transfer size cap, gives you unlimited transfers, and lets you set a custom expiry or keep files available indefinitely.
