No. WeTransfer sends your files exactly as they are, with no re-encoding, no resolution loss, and no quality reduction at any stage. Whether you're uploading 4K footage, ProRes files, RAW stills, or compressed proxies, what your client downloads is byte-for-byte what you put in. The files are zipped for delivery using lossless compression, so the contents are never altered.
Yes. Recipients can preview supported video formats, including MP4 and MOV files up to 300 MB, directly in the browser without downloading anything first. That means a director or photo editor can quickly check they have the right take, cut, or color grade before committing to a full download. Previews display at slightly lower resolution than the original, so the full-quality file is only ever transferred when the recipient chooses to download.
WeTransfer supports folder uploads, so you can drag an entire shoot folder, including nested subfolders, straight into the transfer window. The recipient downloads everything with the original folder structure preserved, which keeps your naming conventions and organizational hierarchy intact. That saves whoever is on the receiving end from having to reassemble files manually before importing into an editing application.
You have two options for locking down a transfer. Password protection lets you add a password before or after sending, which you share with your client separately, so only someone with the code can open the files. Restricted access goes a step further: you specify one or more email addresses, and only those recipients can open the transfer after verifying their identity. Both options are available on all plans and can be set at upload time or updated from your transfer panel after the fact.
Free accounts can send up to 3 GB per transfer, which covers smaller shoots and compressed deliverables but fills up quickly with ungraded 4K or RAW files. WeTransfer Ultimate removes the per-transfer size cap entirely, so you can send full camera dumps, uncompressed exports, and multi-file deliveries without splitting them across separate transfers. Ultimate also lets you keep transfers active indefinitely and recover expired transfers, which is useful when a client comes back for files from a shoot weeks or months later.
