Files are sent exactly as they are, with no re-encoding and no quality loss, so a 4K field documentation video or a multi-page regulatory submission arrives in the same condition it left your machine. There is no need to convert or repackage files before sending.
No. Recipients can download and preview transfers without signing up for anything. They simply open the link or click the download button in the notification email, and the files are theirs. Only the person sending the transfer needs a WeTransfer account, which keeps the process friction-free for external partners, field staff, and stakeholders who are not WeTransfer users.
You have two access control options you can enable on any transfer. Password protection requires recipients to enter a password before downloading, which you share with them through your own secure channel. Restricted access goes further: you specify a list of email addresses, and only people who verify against that list can open the transfer at all. Both options work on all plans, and you can combine them for an added layer of protection on particularly sensitive materials like pre-decision policy drafts, donor reports, or grant applications.
On the free plan, each transfer can be up to 3 GB, which covers many document packages and moderate-resolution files. WeTransfer Ultimate removes the per-transfer size cap entirely, which matters when you are moving large GIS exports, multi-camera field footage, or full-resolution satellite imagery. Ultimate also adds flexible expiry settings, including the option to keep a transfer available indefinitely, and the ability to recover a transfer even after it has expired, which is useful when a partner needs access to archived materials from a previous grant cycle or project phase.
Yes. Upload requests let you create a link that anyone can use to send files directly to you, with no need to exchange email addresses back and forth. You share the link with field teams, surveyors, volunteers, or partner organizations, and they upload directly. You receive an email notification each time a file comes in, and everything appears in your Received panel. The person uploading does need a free WeTransfer account, but there is nothing to install and setup takes under a minute.
