Every transfer is encrypted with TLS while in transit and AES-256 while stored at rest, on AWS servers based in Ireland. WeTransfer is ISO 27001 certified and fully GDPR-compliant, and Data Processing Agreements are available on business plans for organisations that need them for regulatory purposes. Files are automatically scanned for malware on Ultimate and above, and no WeTransfer staff member views your content unless legally required by a valid court order.
Yes. You can restrict access to any transfer so that only people on a named list of verified email addresses can download it. When someone opens the link, they must verify their email address before access is granted, and you receive a notification each time a download happens. You can update the access list at any time after sending, and changes take effect immediately.
A shared workspace gives administrators full visibility over every transfer sent across the team, centralised billing, and shared branding, so there is a consistent, professional presence for every file sent to clients or counterparties. On Teams and Enterprise plans, admins can manage members, assign roles, and monitor transfer activity from one place. Enterprise adds SSO, SCIM provisioning, custom transfer rules, usage logs with SIEM integration, and advanced access management for organisations with formal compliance frameworks.
WeTransfer is GDPR-compliant, ISO 27001 certified, and stores data on EU-based servers in Ireland. Data Processing Agreements are available on paid business plans for organisations where GDPR requires a formal controller-processor arrangement. Enterprise plans also support SAML SSO and SCIM provisioning to integrate with existing identity management infrastructure, which is a common requirement in regulated industries.
On Ultimate, Teams, and Enterprise plans, expired transfers can be recovered even retroactively, including transfers that expired before you upgraded. Files under 256 MB can be recovered for up to one year after expiry, and files over 256 MB for up to 90 days. Free and Starter accounts cannot recover expired transfers, so teams that need reliable document retention should consider an Ultimate or higher plan.
