WeTransfer accepts any file type, including CAD formats such as DWG, DXF, STEP, IGES, STL, OBJ, and proprietary formats from tools like SolidWorks, Rhino, or AutoCAD. Files are transferred without any compression or re-encoding, so the data your recipient downloads is bit-for-bit identical to what you uploaded. On Ultimate and above, there is no cap on individual transfer size, which matters when sending large assembly files or full project archives.
When creating a transfer you can enable Restricted access, which limits downloads to a list of email addresses you specify. Anyone who opens the link must verify their email, and access is only granted if they appear on your list. You can also add a password as an additional barrier, and enable download tracking to receive a notification with name and timestamp each time a file is accessed.
No. WeTransfer does not modify, compress, or re-encode any files you send. When multiple files are bundled together, they are packaged using lossless zip compression for transport only, and the original files inside are untouched. Your CAD data, including geometry, metadata, tolerances, and file structure, arrives exactly as it left your machine.
A shared workspace ties every team member to a single plan with centralized billing, shared storage, and unified branding. Yes. Recipients never need a WeTransfer account to download a transfer. They click the download link or the button in the notification email and get their files directly. If you have enabled Restricted access or download tracking, they will need to verify their email address before the download begins, but no account or sign-up is required on their side.
