Charge for your CAD files before they download

WeTransfer lets you put a price on any transfer so your CAD files stay locked until payment goes through. Buyers check out via Stripe, the download unlocks automatically, and the full amount comes to you — WeTransfer takes no platform fee.

Get paid for your work

CAD designers and engineers routinely hand over high-value files before a client has paid a cent, creating an uncomfortable gap between delivery and invoice settlement. Paid transfers close that gap by turning your share link into a checkout: you set the price, the files stay gated, and the buyer pays through Stripe before the download becomes available. Your drawings, models, and project archives are delivered exactly as you exported them, whether that means DWG, DXF, STEP, IGES, or any other format, with no compression or quality loss. Supported file types can be previewed in the browser before purchase, giving clients confidence in what they are buying without exposing the actual source files. Paid transfers are available on all WeTransfer plans and work from a desktop browser.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

When creating a transfer on desktop, you will find an option to set a price directly in the transfer window. Enter your amount, complete the Stripe setup if you have not already, and share the link with your client. The CAD files remain locked behind the checkout until they pay, at which point the download unlocks automatically.

No. WeTransfer charges no platform fee on paid transfers, so the full amount your client pays goes to you. Stripe's standard processing fees apply, but nothing extra is taken by WeTransfer on top of that.

WeTransfer supports in-browser previews for a range of file types, including PDFs and common image formats, so if you include rendered previews or PDF exports alongside your source files, clients can review those before checkout. Native CAD formats like DWG or STEP do not render in the browser preview, so including a PDF or image export is a practical way to let buyers see the work before paying.

WeTransfer places no restrictions on file format, so you can send DWG, DXF, STEP, IGES, STL, OBJ, Rhino, SolidWorks, Revit, or any other format your workflow produces. Files are transferred without any conversion or compression, so recipients receive exactly what you exported.

No. Recipients do not need a WeTransfer account to purchase or download a paid transfer. They open the link, complete the Stripe checkout, and the files become available to download immediately — no sign-up required on their end.
