Go to wetransfer.com, click Request Files, give your request a title, and add any instructions you want clients to see, such as which documents to include, preferred file naming, or a submission deadline. WeTransfer generates a shareable link you can paste into an email, a client portal message, or a data request schedule. When someone uploads, the files land in your Received panel and you get an email notification immediately.


No paid plan is required. Anyone uploading to your request just needs a free WeTransfer account, which takes a moment to create. Your clients do not need to be familiar with WeTransfer beforehand, making it a low-friction option even for contacts who are not particularly technical.


WeTransfer accepts any file type, so clients can submit financial statements, signed agreements, compliance certificates, audit evidence packs, scanned records, spreadsheets, ZIP archives, and more. Files arrive exactly as they were created, with no compression or alteration, so nothing is mangled between your client's system and your review queue.


You control the request lifecycle. Leave it open for the full duration of an engagement to accept ongoing submissions, or close it at any point from your Transfers panel once all required documents are in. Closing the request means anyone who visits the link will see a message that it is no longer active, so late or incorrect submissions do not arrive after your review is complete.


WeTransfer sends you an email notification each time a file is uploaded to your request. Submitted files appear in the Received tab of your account, organized so you can see what has come in from each request. You can preview supported document formats directly in the browser before downloading, which makes it easy to verify that the right files have arrived without pulling everything to your local drive first.
