Get your expired ZIP transfer back

When a download link goes dark, the files inside don't have to disappear with it. WeTransfer Ultimate keeps expired transfers in a recoverable state, giving you a way to restore ZIP archives from your Transfers panel without re-uploading anything.

Get your expired files back

Searching for a ZIP archive you sent weeks ago, only to find the link has expired, is one of those moments where the right plan makes all the difference. WeTransfer Ultimate holds expired transfers in a recoverable state, so compressed archives packed with footage, documents, project folders, or any other file type can be pulled back directly from your account. What catches many people off guard is that this recovery capability is retroactive: ZIPs you transferred back when you were on a Free or Starter account may already be restorable the moment you upgrade to Ultimate. Every file comes back exactly as it was packaged, with no changes to the contents, compression, or folder structure inside the archive. Free and Starter plans end at expiry with no recovery path, so Ultimate is the only way to keep that option open.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

Yes, and this surprises a lot of people. The recovery capability on Ultimate reaches back to transfers sent before you upgraded, so a ZIP you shared when you were on a Free or Starter plan may already be waiting in your Transfers panel to be restored. The transfer needs to be within the applicable recovery window, but no action was required at the time of sending.

Nothing changes. WeTransfer stores and returns files exactly as they were uploaded, with no recompression, no re-encoding, and no alterations to the archive structure. The ZIP your recipient downloads after recovery is identical to the one you originally sent, with every file and folder inside in the same state.

Go to your Transfers panel, find the expired transfer, and look for a Recover or Restore option next to it. If the transfer is within the recovery window and the Recoverable option was enabled when it was sent, you can bring it back from there. The download link becomes active again without any re-uploading.

It does. On Ultimate, files under 256 MB can be recovered for up to one year after expiry, while files over 256 MB have a 90-day recovery window. For large ZIP archives containing raw footage, full project exports, or bulk asset collections, it is worth restoring sooner rather than waiting until the end of that window.

Yes. Ultimate lets you set a custom expiry or choose to keep a transfer active indefinitely, so the download link stays live for as long as you need it. You can adjust the expiry date at any time from the transfer details page, even after the transfer has already been sent.
