Get your expired video footage transfers back

A broken download link doesn't have to mean lost footage. WeTransfer Ultimate keeps expired transfers in a recoverable state, so raw clips, edited sequences, and client deliverables stay within reach from your Transfers panel — including footage you sent while still on a Free or Starter plan.

Get your expired files back

Video footage is some of the hardest content to replace once a transfer link goes dark, especially when you're dealing with raw camera files, multi-gigabyte project exports, or time-sensitive client deliveries. WeTransfer Ultimate lets you restore expired transfers directly from your Transfers panel, bringing footage back without any re-uploading or re-exporting from your editing software. Recovery works retroactively, so transfers you sent before ever switching to Ultimate may already be waiting to be restored the moment your plan changes. Every file comes back exactly as it was sent: original resolution, original encoding, no re-compression on anything from 4K ProRes to H.264 web exports. On Free and Starter plans, expiry is permanent and there is no recovery path once the transfer disappears from WeTransfer's servers.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

Yes. The recovery capability on Ultimate is retroactive, which means transfers you sent while on a Free or Starter plan may already be restorable once you upgrade. Head to your Transfers panel, find the expired transfer, and if it falls within the recovery window you'll see the option to restore it. No re-uploading or re-exporting your footage is needed.

For video files under 256 MB, the recovery window is up to one year after expiry. For larger video files — raw camera footage, high-resolution exports, and anything over 256 MB — you have up to 90 days. After those windows close, the files are permanently removed from WeTransfer's servers and cannot be restored by anyone.

Completely. WeTransfer never re-encodes or recompresses your files at any point, so recovered footage returns in exactly the same state it left your machine — whether that's 4K RAW, ProRes, H.264, or any other format. There is no resolution loss, no codec conversion, and no change to the file itself.

On Ultimate, the Recoverable option is turned on by default for every new transfer, so your footage is protected without any extra setup. If you want to double-check before sending, look for the option in the transfer settings panel before clicking Transfer. Keeping it enabled means expired transfers stay in a recoverable state for as long as the recovery window allows.

Once you restore an expired transfer from your Transfers panel, you can resend the download link to the same recipients or copy it to share with someone new — all without uploading the footage again. This makes recovery useful not just for your own reference copies, but for resending client deliverables or project files that went stale between review rounds.
