Recover a property transfer before it's gone for good

A dead download link does not automatically mean the floor plans, contracts, or listing photos you needed are gone. WeTransfer draws a clear line between a link expiring and files being permanently removed, and WeTransfer Ultimate gives both the person who sent the transfer and the person who received it a concrete way back.

Get your expired files back

Real estate moves fast, and losing access to a transfer containing a signed disclosure, a set of high-resolution listing photos, or a finalized floor plan can stall a deal. When a WeTransfer link expires, the download stops working, but that is not the same as the files being wiped: recoverable transfers, which are the default, remain in a restorable state on WeTransfer's servers for an extended period after expiry. Senders on WeTransfer Ultimate can restore expired transfers directly from their Transfers panel, and that path is open even for transfers originally sent from a Free or Starter account, as long as the retention window has not closed. If you were the agent or client on the receiving end and still have the original expired link, you may be able to trigger a recovery from the expired download page itself when signed in with an eligible plan. Free and Starter accounts cannot self-restore, but an expired link on its own is not confirmation that the underlying files have already been permanently removed.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

Not necessarily. When a transfer expires on a Free or Starter plan, the download link stops working, but if the transfer was marked recoverable (the default setting), the files can remain on WeTransfer's servers for an extended window after that point, ranging from around 90 days for larger files to close to a year for smaller ones. An expired link and permanent deletion are two separate events. If you upgrade to WeTransfer Ultimate while the retention window is still open, you can restore the transfer from your Transfers panel without re-uploading anything.

If you are the sender and you have a WeTransfer Ultimate subscription, go to your Transfers panel, find the expired transfer, and use the Recover or Restore option if recovery is still available. This works even for transfers that were originally sent while you were on a Free or Starter account, provided the retention window has not elapsed. Upgrading to Ultimate in time is the key step, since Free and Starter accounts do not have the self-restore option.

They may be able to. If the recipient still has the original expired link, opening it while signed in with a WeTransfer plan that includes recovery can trigger a restore from the expired download experience, extending the download window again without the sender needing to re-upload. This is separate from the sender-side recovery in the Transfers panel, and it applies when the transfer was marked recoverable and the retention window is still open.

WeTransfer handles any file type without compression or quality loss, so floor plans, architectural drawings, high-resolution listing photos, 4K walkthrough videos, PDFs of contracts and disclosures, CAD files, and ZIP archives of staged photography all transfer exactly as they were created. Recovery availability after expiry depends on the plan and retention window, not on the file type, though files above 256 MB have a shorter recovery window than smaller files.

WeTransfer Ultimate lets you set a custom expiry or keep transfers active indefinitely, so a contract pack or virtual tour link never goes dark mid-negotiation. Transfers are also marked recoverable by default, giving you a fallback even if you forget to extend the expiry. For teams working across multiple listings or offices, the Teams plan adds shared storage and centralized account management so everyone operates under the same settings.
