An expired WeTransfer link and permanently deleted files are not the same thing. When a transfer is marked recoverable, your Photoshop files often remain on WeTransfer's servers in a restorable state, and WeTransfer Ultimate gives both senders and recipients a clear path back to them.
Get your expired files back
Photoshop files carry layers, masks, smart objects, and hours of careful work, so landing on a dead transfer link is worth investigating before you write those files off. WeTransfer separates link expiry from permanent deletion: when the download link stops working on a recoverable transfer, the underlying PSD files are typically still held on WeTransfer's servers during a retention window. WeTransfer Ultimate subscribers can restore expired transfers directly from the Transfers panel, and that includes transfers originally sent from a Free or Starter account before any upgrade happened. If you received the Photoshop files and still have the original expired link, signing in with an eligible plan from the expired download page can also open a recovery route. Free and Starter users cannot self-restore, but an expired link on its own is not confirmation that your Photoshop files have been permanently removed.

All your questions answered.
Not necessarily. When a transfer is marked recoverable (the default unless you turned it off), link expiry and permanent deletion are two separate events. Your Photoshop files may still be held on WeTransfer's servers in a recoverable state for an extended window after the link stops working. Free and Starter users cannot self-restore, but upgrading to WeTransfer Ultimate before that retention window closes keeps recovery on the table.
On WeTransfer Ultimate, open your Transfers panel, find the expired transfer, and select the restore option if it appears. This works for transfers sent while you were on any plan, including Free or Starter, provided the retention window has not closed and the transfer was marked recoverable. Once restored, the original PSD files and any other assets in that transfer become downloadable again without a re-upload.
If you still have the original expired download link, open it and sign in with a WeTransfer plan that includes recovery. From the expired download experience, you may be able to trigger a restore that extends the download window again, no re-upload required. This path is available on Ultimate and above, so upgrading before the retention window closes is the key step.
WeTransfer never re-encodes or compresses files, so your PSDs are stored exactly as you uploaded them. When a transfer is restored, the files come back in the same state, full layers, embedded assets, and all, with no resolution loss or format conversion. The recovery restores every file included in the original transfer, not just a preview or a flattened version.
WeTransfer Ultimate lets you set a custom expiry on any transfer, including the option to keep it active indefinitely until you choose to delete it. You can set this before uploading or adjust it later from the Transfers panel on an active transfer. That means clients, collaborators, or your own archive can stay accessible for as long as the project needs, with no countdown pressure.
