Get your expired photo transfers back

Photos don't always get downloaded the moment you send them. If a transfer link stops working before your recipient saves the files, WeTransfer Ultimate lets you pull those photos back from your Transfers panel, no re-uploading required. That recovery window even reaches transfers sent before you upgraded.

Get your expired files back

Expired photo transfers feel like a dead end, but the outcome depends on the plan that sent them. WeTransfer Ultimate keeps expired transfers in a recoverable state, so your photos remain accessible from your account even after the download link goes dark. Because the recovery applies retroactively, shots you sent while on Free or Starter may already be waiting to be restored the moment you move to Ultimate. Every photo comes back exactly as it was sent, with no compression or resolution loss, whether it was a raw file, a high-resolution JPEG, or a 4K still. On Free and Starter plans, expired transfers are permanently deleted from WeTransfer's servers with no recovery path available.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

Yes, in many cases. If you upgrade to Ultimate, the retroactive recovery window applies to transfers sent before you were a subscriber, including those sent on a Free or Starter plan. Head to your Transfers panel, find the expired transfer, and if recovery is still available you will see an option to restore it. If recovery is not available, the files have been permanently removed and cannot be retrieved.

On WeTransfer Ultimate, photo files under 256 MB can be recovered for up to one year after the transfer expires. For image files over 256 MB, the recovery window is 90 days. These windows apply as long as the Recoverable option was enabled on the transfer, which is turned on by default for every new transfer you send on Ultimate.

Yes. WeTransfer never compresses or re-encodes your files, so recovered photos return exactly as they were originally uploaded, whether that is a high-resolution JPEG, a RAW file, or a large TIFF. No resolution is lost at any point in the transfer or recovery process.

Log in to your WeTransfer account, open the Transfers panel, and locate the expired transfer. If the transfer is still within its recovery window, a Recover or Restore option appears alongside it. Clicking that restores the files and generates a fresh download link without any re-uploading on your part.

On WeTransfer Ultimate, the Recoverable option is enabled by default on every new transfer, so your photos are protected automatically without any extra setup. You can also set transfers to never expire, giving recipients as long as they need to download your files and eliminating the risk of a link going dark in the first place.
