A dead download link does not mean your font files have left WeTransfer's servers. Expiry and deletion happen at different times, and there are real paths back to those files, whether you sent the transfer or you're the one trying to download it.
Get your expired files back
Font files can be tricky to source again: licensed typefaces, custom-built families, or an exact version of a variable font tied to a live project. When the link to a transfer goes dark, the instinct is to assume the files are gone, but for most transfers, that is not what happened. WeTransfer holds recoverable transfers in a restorable state after the download link stops working, keeping the files on its servers for a window of time before permanent deletion takes place. WeTransfer Ultimate subscribers can restore expired font transfers directly from the Transfers panel, including ones originally sent from a Free or Starter account, and someone who still has the expired link may also be able to initiate a restore from the expired download page when signed in with an eligible plan. Free and Starter users cannot self-restore, but an expired link is not automatic proof the files are gone.

All your questions answered.
Not necessarily. When a transfer expires, the download link stops working, but that is a separate event from files being permanently removed from WeTransfer's servers. By default, WeTransfer marks transfers as recoverable, which means your font files may still be sitting in a restorable state well after the link goes dark. Permanent deletion only happens after the retention window closes, not at the moment expiry occurs.
Go to your Transfers panel, find the expired font transfer in your sent list, and look for a Recover or Restore option next to it. If the transfer was marked recoverable and is still within the retention window, you can bring it back without re-uploading anything. This works for transfers you originally sent even before you were on Ultimate, so font packs delivered when you were on a Free or Starter account may still be restorable now.
Yes, if they are signed in to WeTransfer with a plan that includes recovery, they can attempt to restore the transfer directly from the expired download page the link leads to. They do not need to contact you or wait for a re-upload. The restore extends the download window again, so they can get to the font files without the transfer having to start over.
It can be, if you act before the retention window closes. Free and Starter users cannot self-restore after a link expires, but that does not mean WeTransfer has already deleted the files. Upgrading to Ultimate within the retention window makes those expired transfers eligible for recovery, including ones sent before you upgraded. If your font files are still within that window, the path back may still be open.
WeTransfer accepts any file type, so TTF, OTF, WOFF, WOFF2, and variable font formats all transfer without issue. Files are sent without compression or re-encoding, meaning every file comes back in exactly the state you uploaded it, down to the metadata. If you are sending a full type family with multiple weights or styles, you can upload the folder as-is and recipients download it with the original structure intact.
