When a folder transfer link goes dead, everything inside it — nested files, original structure, the whole package — feels gone for good. WeTransfer Ultimate keeps expired transfers recoverable, so you can restore entire folder transfers from your Transfers panel without tracking down the original sender or asking anyone to re-upload.
Get your expired files back
Searching for a way back into an expired folder transfer is frustrating, especially when the contents were organized exactly the way you needed them. WeTransfer lets you upload and transfer complete folders with their original structure intact, and on Ultimate, those transfers stay recoverable even after the link has stopped working. Recovery is retroactive too, meaning folder transfers you sent while on a Free or Starter account may already be restorable as soon as you upgrade. Every folder comes back precisely as it was sent — same hierarchy, same filenames, nothing repackaged or altered. Free and Starter plans permanently remove files once a transfer expires, so Ultimate is the only plan that keeps a recovery path open.

All your questions answered.
Yes. Recovery on Ultimate is retroactive, so folder transfers sent while you were on a Free or Starter plan may already be waiting in your Transfers panel the moment you upgrade. You don't need to have been on Ultimate when the transfer was originally sent.
It does. When WeTransfer sends a folder transfer, it keeps the original directory structure intact — subfolders, file names, and hierarchy all travel together. A recovered transfer comes back exactly as it was packaged, with nothing reorganized or renamed.
Go to your Transfers panel, find the expired transfer, and look for a Recover or Restore option next to it. If the transfer is within its recovery window and recovery is available, you can bring it back from there. The option only appears on Ultimate, Teams, or Enterprise accounts.
For folders containing files under 256 MB each, you have up to one year after expiry to recover them. For files over 256 MB, the recovery window is 90 days. After those windows close, the files are permanently removed and cannot be restored.
On Ultimate, you can set a custom expiry when sending — including keeping a transfer active indefinitely so the link never expires unless you delete it. Free and Starter transfers are limited to a maximum of 3 days before they expire automatically.
