In finance and banking, the documents you share — contracts, compliance reports, audit packages, due diligence files — rarely disappear quietly. WeTransfer Ultimate lets you restore expired transfers directly from your account, including ones you sent before you had an Ultimate plan.
Get your expired files back
When a transfer link expires and a colleague needs the signed term sheet or a regulator is waiting on a compliance package, re-uploading from scratch is not always an option. WeTransfer Ultimate gives you a recovery path for expired transfers, letting you pull them back from your Transfers panel without contacting the original sender. That recovery can even reach transfers you sent while on a Free or Starter account, so upgrading to Ultimate may unlock files you thought were already gone. Every file returns exactly as it was packaged — PDFs, spreadsheets, encrypted archives, and multi-folder bundles all come back intact, with nothing altered. Free and Starter accounts have no recovery option once a transfer expires, which makes Ultimate the only plan with that safety net built in.

All your questions answered.
Log in to your WeTransfer account, go to your Transfers panel, and find the expired transfer. If recovery is available, you will see a Recover or Restore option next to it. This works for any transfer within the recovery window, including contracts, audit files, and compliance packages, as long as you are on an Ultimate, Teams, or Enterprise plan.
Yes. Recovery on Ultimate applies retroactively, which means transfers you sent before you upgraded may already be available to restore the moment your Ultimate subscription is active. Head to your Transfers panel and check for the Recover option on any expired transfer. This makes upgrading worthwhile even if the transfer you need was sent under a previous, lower-tier plan.
For files under 256 MB, the recovery window is up to one year after expiry. For files over 256 MB — such as large data exports, bulk statement archives, or due diligence data rooms — the window is up to 90 days. Upgrading to Ultimate before those windows close is the only way to preserve that option.
Yes. WeTransfer does not alter, compress, or re-encode files during transfer or recovery. PDFs, Excel models, encrypted ZIP archives, and any other document types return with their original file names, folder structure, and content fully intact. Nothing is modified between the time you sent the transfer and the time you restore it.
The Recoverable option is enabled by default on new transfers, so in most cases no extra steps are needed. It is worth confirming that option is selected before you click Send, particularly for time-sensitive materials like closing documents or regulatory submissions. An Ultimate, Teams, or Enterprise subscription must be active when you attempt to recover — without one, expired transfers are permanently deleted and cannot be restored.
