Get your expired Figma transfer back

Sending a Figma file and having the link go dark does not have to mean starting over. WeTransfer holds recoverable transfers in a restorable state after a link stops working, giving both senders and recipients a route back to those design files with WeTransfer Ultimate.

Get your expired files back

Figma exports, component libraries, and shared design assets represent real hours of work, so a dead transfer link feels worse than it often is. When a transfer is marked recoverable (the default setting), the expiry of a download link and the permanent removal of files from WeTransfer's servers are two separate events with a window between them. WeTransfer Ultimate subscribers can restore expired transfers directly from the Transfers panel, and that includes transfers originally sent under a Free or Starter account before any upgrade. If you are on the receiving end and still have the original link, you can also trigger a recovery from the expired download page when you are logged in with an eligible plan. Free and Starter users cannot self-restore, but an expired Figma link is not the same as files being wiped, and upgrading to Ultimate before the retention window closes keeps recovery on the table.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

Not necessarily. When a transfer is sent with recoverability on (which is the default), expiry stops the download link from working but does not immediately wipe the files from WeTransfer's servers. Files stay in a recoverable state for an extended window after expiry, roughly up to 90 days for larger transfers and up to about a year for smaller ones. Free and Starter users cannot self-restore, but if you upgrade to Ultimate before that window closes, those Figma files can become recoverable.

On WeTransfer Ultimate, go to your Transfers panel, find the expired transfer, and look for a Recover or Restore option next to it. If the transfer is still within its retention window and was sent with recoverability enabled, you can restore it from there without re-uploading anything. This works for transfers you sent while already on Ultimate and for transfers you sent earlier on a Free or Starter account, as long as the retention window has not closed.

Yes, in some cases. If they open the expired download link and are logged in with a WeTransfer plan that includes recovery (Ultimate or above), they may be able to trigger a restore directly from the expired download experience. That extends the download window again without anyone needing to re-upload the Figma files. The sender does not need to do anything for this path to work.

WeTransfer handles any file type, so Figma exports in formats like .fig, .pdf, image exports (PNG, JPG), prototype frames, and any ZIP archive of design assets all transfer without issue. Files are sent in their original quality with no compression or re-encoding, which matters when sharing high-resolution exports or design handoff packages. Recovery eligibility depends on the transfer's recoverability setting and which plan you are on, not on the file type itself.

No. Deleting a transfer from your Transfers panel is a sender-initiated action that immediately revokes the download link and removes the files. That is different from a transfer expiring on its own schedule, where the files often remain on WeTransfer's servers in a recoverable state for a period after the link stops working. Once you have manually deleted a transfer, there is no recovery path, so it is worth using the Transfers panel carefully when managing Figma file transfers you might still need.
