Course materials, student submissions, research data, and lesson resources take real effort to prepare. WeTransfer Ultimate lets you restore expired transfers straight from your account, including ones you sent before you had an Ultimate subscription.
Get your expired files back
Losing access to a transfer link mid-term or after a project deadline can set back teachers, lecturers, and students who need the original files. WeTransfer Ultimate gives you a recovery path that works retroactively, so educational materials you shared while on a Free or Starter account may already be waiting for you the moment you upgrade. Restore expired transfers yourself from your Transfers panel, with no need to contact anyone or ask for files to be re-uploaded. Everything comes back exactly as it was packaged, whether that means PDF syllabi, video lectures, ZIP archives of design coursework, or folders of student portfolio files. Free and Starter accounts have no recovery option once a transfer expires, making Ultimate the only plan that keeps that access available.
Our features are designed to minimize how much of your data we — or anyone else — can access, so you can keep what's yours, yours.

All your questions answered.
Log in to your WeTransfer account, go to your Transfers panel, and find the expired transfer. If you are on Ultimate and the transfer is within its recovery window, a Recover option will appear alongside it. Click it to restore the files, and the transfer becomes active again without any changes to the original content.
Yes. Recovery on Ultimate works retroactively, so transfers you sent while on a Free or Starter account may already be recoverable the moment you upgrade. Check your Transfers panel after upgrading and look for the Recover option on any eligible expired transfer. This makes it possible for educators and researchers to reclaim files shared months ago without having to re-upload anything.
On Ultimate, files under 256 MB can be recovered for up to one year after expiry. Files over 256 MB have a 90-day recovery window. Free and Starter transfers are permanently deleted once they expire, with no recovery path, so upgrading to Ultimate before the window closes is the only way to reclaim access.
WeTransfer supports any file type, so recovered transfers can include PDF reading packs, video lectures, audio recordings, PowerPoint presentations, spreadsheets, ZIP archives of student project folders, design files, and more. Files come back exactly as they were packaged, with no changes to folder structure, file names, or content quality.
The Recoverable option is enabled by default when creating a new transfer on WeTransfer, so most transfers are already set up for recovery. Before sending, double-check that the option is still toggled on in your transfer settings. An Ultimate subscription also lets you set a custom expiry or keep transfers active indefinitely, which reduces the chance of a link going dark at a critical point in the academic calendar.
