Construction projects generate files that are hard to recreate — site surveys, structural drawings, BIM models, and contractor submittals. WeTransfer Ultimate keeps expired transfers in a recoverable state, so you can pull them back from your Transfers panel yourself, including files sent before you ever had an Ultimate account.
Get your expired files back
When a transfer link goes dark mid-project, waiting on someone to locate and re-upload a set of architectural drawings or site plans is time a construction schedule rarely has. WeTransfer Ultimate lets you restore expired transfers directly from your own account, without contacting the original sender or asking anyone to dig through their files. Recovery applies retroactively, meaning construction transfers you sent while on a Free or Starter account may already be waiting for you as soon as you upgrade to Ultimate. Every file comes back exactly as it was packaged, with no changes to folder structure, file names, or the contents of your CAD, PDF, or BIM exports. Free and Starter accounts have no path back once a transfer expires, so Ultimate is the only plan that keeps that option open.

All your questions answered.
Go to your Transfers panel, find the expired transfer, and if recovery is available you'll see a Recover or Restore option next to it. This works for CAD files, PDF submittals, BIM exports, and any other file type you originally sent — the transfer comes back exactly as it was packaged. Recovery is available on Ultimate, Teams, and Enterprise plans.
Yes. Recovery on Ultimate works retroactively, so transfers you sent while on a Free or Starter account may already be restorable the moment you upgrade. Free and Starter plans permanently delete files once a transfer expires, but switching to Ultimate opens that recovery path for qualifying past transfers. Check your Transfers panel after upgrading to see what is available.
The recovery window depends on file size. Transfers containing files smaller than 256 MB can be recovered for up to one year after expiry. Transfers with files larger than 256 MB have a 90-day recovery window. For large construction packages — full BIM models, high-resolution site photography, or combined drawing sets — it is worth checking the panel promptly rather than waiting.
When creating a transfer, the Recoverable option is enabled by default, so most transfers sent through WeTransfer already have recovery turned on. As long as you are on Ultimate, Teams, or Enterprise when you attempt to restore, the transfer should appear in your panel if it falls within the recovery window. Turning off the Recoverable option at send time is the only way to prevent future recovery, so leaving it on is the safest habit for construction teams handling files that may be needed again.
On a Teams plan, workspace admins can view and manage all transfers sent within the workspace, which gives the team broader visibility when a transfer needs restoring. On an individual Ultimate account, you can recover your own expired transfers. For construction firms where multiple people send project files, Teams keeps everyone's transfers accessible in one place, with centralized billing and up to 50 members sharing the same workspace.
