When a deadline has passed and a client needs the original creative assets, chasing down files that should never have disappeared is the last thing you need. WeTransfer Ultimate keeps expired transfers recoverable from your Transfers panel, including work you sent before you ever had an Ultimate account.
Get your expired files back
Marketing and advertising professionals know that campaign assets, creative briefs, and presentation decks often need to resurface long after a transfer link has gone dark. WeTransfer Ultimate lets you restore expired transfers yourself, straight from your account, without asking a colleague to dig out source files or rebuild anything from scratch. Recovery applies retroactively, so transfers you sent while on a Free or Starter account may already be waiting to restore the moment you move to Ultimate. Every file comes back exactly as it was packaged, whether that means layered PSDs, video cuts, PDF decks, or ZIP archives of an entire campaign. Free and Starter plans permanently delete files once a transfer expires, making Ultimate the only plan that keeps a recovery path available.

All your questions answered.
Log into your WeTransfer account, go to your Transfers panel, and find the expired transfer. If recovery is available, you will see a Recover or Restore option next to it. Click that and your files come back online, restoring the download link so you or your client can access the assets again. This feature is available on Ultimate, Teams, and Enterprise plans.
Yes. Recovery on WeTransfer Ultimate works retroactively, meaning transfers you sent while on a Free or Starter plan can still be recoverable after you upgrade. As long as the transfer falls within the recovery window and the Recoverable option was enabled at the time of sending, it will appear in your Transfers panel ready to restore. This is particularly useful for advertising professionals who need to pull back assets from a campaign that wrapped months ago.
Any file type you sent through WeTransfer is recoverable through the same process, including video cuts, motion graphics, PDF presentations, layered design files, audio assets, and ZIP archives containing entire campaign folders. Files come back exactly as they were packaged, with no changes to file names, folder structure, or quality. Nothing is re-encoded or modified during recovery.
On WeTransfer Ultimate, files smaller than 256 MB can be recovered for up to one year after expiry. Files larger than 256 MB have a 90-day recovery window. For advertising and marketing teams dealing with high-resolution video, broadcast deliverables, or large asset bundles, it is worth keeping file size in mind when planning how long you may need that recovery window to stay open.
The Recoverable option is enabled by default on new transfers for Ultimate, Teams, and Enterprise users, so in most cases you are already covered. It is worth double-checking this setting in your transfer options before sending, especially for high-stakes deliverables like final campaign videos or approved brand assets. On Free and Starter plans, recovery is not available regardless of settings, so those plans offer no fallback once a transfer expires.
