Nothing is touched. WeTransfer transfers files in their original state, so ARW, NEF, CR2, CR3, DNG, RAF, RW2, ORF, and every other RAW format arrives byte-for-byte identical to what you uploaded. There is no re-encoding, no quality reduction, and no format conversion at any point in the process.
Yes, on an Ultimate plan or above you can set a transfer to never expire, meaning the download link stays live until you choose to delete it. Free and Starter transfers expire after a maximum of three days, so a permanent link requires an upgraded plan. You can also adjust the expiry date of an active transfer at any time from your Transfers panel.
Recipients can preview supported RAW formats, including ARW, NEF, CR2, CR3, DNG, RAF, RW2, and ORF, directly in the browser without downloading anything first. The preview renders at a slightly reduced resolution so they can check the content and choose which files to download individually, which is useful for large shoots where a client only needs a selection.
You can restrict a transfer to a defined list of email addresses, so only verified recipients on that list can open the link. Alternatively, password protection adds a shared passphrase that you distribute outside WeTransfer. Both options are available across all plans and can be combined with download tracking so you have a clear record of who accessed the files and when.
On Free and Starter plans, expired transfers are permanently deleted and cannot be restored. On Ultimate and above, the Recoverable option lets you retrieve expired transfers, including files that expired before you upgraded to a paid plan. Files under 256 MB can be recovered for up to one year after expiry, and files over 256 MB for up to 90 days, so switching to a paid plan retroactively opens up a recovery window even for older transfers.
