Yes, on the Ultimate plan and above you can set a custom expiry on any transfer, including the option to keep it active indefinitely so the link never closes unless you choose to delete it. Free and Starter transfers expire after a maximum of 3 days, which is fine for quick sends but not practical for client galleries or archival deliveries. With an indefinitely active link, clients can return to their images whenever they need without chasing you for a resend.
No. WeTransfer sends every file in its original state, with no compression, no re-encoding, and no quality loss at any point in the process. That means 4K footage, RAW stills, high-bitrate ProRes files, and full-resolution exports arrive exactly as you created them. Recipients can also preview supported video files directly in the browser before downloading, so they can confirm they have the right cut without pulling down the full file first.
WeTransfer accepts any file type, so you can send RAW formats, JPEGs, TIFFs, PSD files, MP4s, MOV files, ZIP archives, and everything in between. There is no restriction on file format, which matters when delivering a mixed package of stills, video exports, and layered design files in a single transfer. You can also upload entire folders and recipients download them with the original folder structure intact.
When creating a transfer you can enable restricted access, which limits downloads to a specific email address or a defined list of email addresses you provide. Anyone who opens the link but is not on that list cannot download the files. You can also add a password as a second layer of protection, and enable download tracking to see exactly who accessed the transfer and when, giving you a clear record for client communication.
On a Free plan, transfers expire after a maximum of 3 days and the files are permanently removed from WeTransfer's servers after expiry, with no recovery option available. On the Ultimate plan and above, the Recoverable feature allows expired transfers to be restored within defined recovery windows: up to one year for files under 256 MB and up to 90 days for files over 256 MB. If you upgrade to Ultimate after a transfer has already expired, recovery can apply retroactively, so previously lost links may still be retrievable.
