On WeTransfer Ultimate and above, you can set a transfer to never expire, so links to press assets, archive footage, or evergreen reference materials remain accessible for as long as your project demands. Free accounts cap link availability at three days, so for long-running media work an Ultimate subscription is the right fit. You can also adjust or remove the expiry date on any active transfer at any time from your Transfers panel.
No. WeTransfer sends every file in its original state, including 4K video, RAW camera formats, and high-bitrate audio, with no re-encoding, no compression, and no resolution loss. What you upload is exactly what the recipient downloads, which matters when footage quality or file integrity is non-negotiable for broadcast or publication.
You can restrict access to a transfer by specifying a list of email addresses, so only those verified recipients can open the link even if it circulates more widely. Adding a password gives you a second layer of control. Both options are available on all WeTransfer plans and can be configured before you send or adjusted after the transfer is already live.
On Ultimate, Teams, and Enterprise plans, expired transfers can be recovered within defined windows: up to one year for files under 256 MB and up to 90 days for files over 256 MB, provided the Recoverable option was enabled when the transfer was created. On Free accounts, once a transfer expires the files are permanently deleted and cannot be restored, so for media teams sharing time-sensitive assets an upgraded plan is worth considering.
