Yes. On the Ultimate plan and above, you can set a transfer to never expire, meaning the download link stays live until you choose to delete it. This is useful for healthcare documents like clinical guidelines, staff handbooks, or compliance references that people need to return to over months or years. Free plan transfers expire after a maximum of three days, so long-term document sharing requires an upgrade to Ultimate or higher.
WeTransfer supports PDFs, Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets, and many other common file types, so clinical forms, policy documents, referral letters, and training materials all transfer without issue. Files are sent in their original format with no compression or alteration, meaning formatting, embedded content, and document structure arrive exactly as you prepared them. Recipients can also preview PDFs directly in their browser before downloading.
You can restrict access to a document transfer in two ways. Adding a password means only recipients who have been given that password can open the link. Alternatively, you can use restricted access to specify a list of email addresses, so only those individuals can download the files after verifying their identity. Both options are available on all plans, giving healthcare teams precise control over documents that may contain sensitive or regulated information.
WeTransfer is GDPR-compliant and based in the EU, with files stored on AWS servers in Ireland. All transfers are encrypted in transit using TLS and at rest using AES-256, and the service is ISO 27001 certified. Data Processing Agreements are available for business plan customers, which is relevant for healthcare organisations that need to document their data processing arrangements. WeTransfer does not view, sell, or share your files, and content is never used to train AI models.
On Ultimate, Teams, and Enterprise plans, expired transfers can be recovered if the recoverable option was enabled when the transfer was created. Files under 256 MB can be retrieved for up to one year after expiry, and larger files for up to 90 days. Free plan transfers cannot be recovered once expired. For healthcare teams sharing documents that may need to be retrieved later, enabling this option when creating the transfer is a practical safeguard.
