Yes. On WeTransfer Ultimate and above, you can remove the expiry on any transfer entirely, so the download link stays active until you choose to delete it. This is well suited to evergreen resources like policy templates, funding guidelines, or onboarding packs that teams return to repeatedly. Free accounts are limited to a maximum 3-day expiry, so a paid plan is needed for long-term sharing.
When creating a transfer, you can enable restricted access and specify a list of email addresses. Anyone who opens the link must verify their email before downloading, and only addresses on your list are granted access. You can also add a password to any transfer as an additional layer of protection. Both options are available on all plans and can be managed from your transfers panel after sending.
WeTransfer encrypts files in transit using TLS and at rest using AES-256, stores data on AWS servers in Ireland, and is ISO 27001 certified and fully GDPR-compliant. Data processing agreements are available for business plans, which is useful for organisations with formal compliance requirements. WeTransfer does not view, sell, or share your files, and files are never used to train AI models.
WeTransfer supports any file type, including PDFs, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, images, audio, video, ZIP archives, CAD and design files, and more. Files are sent without compression or alteration, so recipients receive every document exactly as it was uploaded. Folder uploads are also supported, preserving the original folder structure for recipients.
On Ultimate, Teams, and Enterprise plans, expired transfers can be recovered within defined windows after expiry, and recovery applies retroactively, even to transfers that expired before you upgraded. Free and Starter accounts cannot recover expired transfers. For organisations sharing materials with external partners who may download on their own schedule, using a plan that supports custom expiry or no expiry is the most reliable option.
