Yes, on WeTransfer Ultimate you can set any transfer to never expire, so a link to a contract, prospectus, or compliance document stays accessible indefinitely until you choose to remove it. Free accounts have a maximum expiry of three days, which is not practical for documents that clients or colleagues may need to revisit weeks or months later. With Ultimate you can also recover transfers that have already expired, including ones that expired before you upgraded.
You have two options. You can add a password to any transfer, which means only people you give the password to can access the files. Alternatively, you can use restricted access to lock a transfer to a specific list of email addresses, so the recipient must verify their email before downloading. Both options are available on all plans and work well for sharing sensitive financial documents with a controlled group.
WeTransfer supports any file type, so you can send PDFs, Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, CSVs, and ZIP archives without any conversion or reformatting. Files arrive exactly as you uploaded them. Recipients can preview PDFs and Office documents directly in the browser before downloading, which is useful when sharing multi-page reports or term sheets and recipients want to confirm they have the right version.
Yes. For email transfers, your Transfers panel shows a checkmark next to each recipient's address once they download, along with the exact date and time. This is useful for compliance workflows where you need to confirm that a counterparty received and opened a specific file.
WeTransfer encrypts all files in transit using TLS and at rest using AES-256, stores files on AWS servers in Ireland, and holds ISO 27001 certification. The service is fully GDPR-compliant and Data Processing Agreements are available for business plan customers, which is relevant for banks and financial institutions with regulatory obligations. WeTransfer does not view, sell, or share your files, and files are never used to train AI models.
