Course materials, research files, and teaching resources don't follow a three-day window. WeTransfer gives every transfer a unique download link, and with the right plan, you decide if that link ever closes, so students and colleagues can access what they need on their own schedule.
Share files that never expire
Educators and institutions share a wide range of files, from lecture slides and reading lists to video recordings, design assets, and research data, and those materials often need to stay reachable long after the first send. WeTransfer sends every file exactly as it was uploaded, with no compression and no quality loss, so syllabi, high-resolution diagrams, audio files, and large video recordings arrive intact and play back correctly. Each transfer gets its own download link that recipients can open in any browser without creating an account, removing the sign-up barrier that often gets in the way when sharing with students or external collaborators. You can protect sensitive academic materials with a password, restrict access to verified email addresses, or enable download tracking to see who has retrieved a file and when. For portfolios, reference libraries, or course resources that need to stay up permanently, WeTransfer puts expiry control in your hands.
Our features are designed to minimize how much of your data we — or anyone else — can access, so you can keep what's yours, yours.

All your questions answered.
Yes. On an Ultimate plan or above, you can set a transfer to never expire, so a link shared at the start of term is still working at the end of it. Free and Starter transfers close after a maximum of three days, which is not practical for ongoing course resources. With a permanent link, students can download lecture notes, assignment briefs, or reading packs whenever they need them without chasing you for a resend.
Absolutely. WeTransfer sends files exactly as they leave your device, with no re-encoding and no resolution loss, so lecture recordings, tutorial videos, and audio content arrive in their original quality. On Ultimate and above, there is no transfer size limit, which is useful for high-resolution or lengthy recordings that other tools reject or compress. Recipients can also preview supported video and audio files in-browser before downloading, so they can check it's the right file without committing to the full download.
WeTransfer lets you restrict access to a specific list of email addresses, so only the people you name can open the transfer after verifying their identity. You can also add a password to any transfer on any plan, which is a quick way to keep materials within a defined group. Download tracking lets you see who accessed each file and when, giving you a clear record, which can be useful when distributing assessment materials or graded work.
No. Recipients can open any WeTransfer download link in a browser and get their files without signing up or logging in. This matters in education because it removes a registration barrier for students, parents, or external examiners who may never use the service again. The sender does need a free account to send, but the download experience is frictionless for everyone on the receiving end.
On a Free plan, transfers close after a maximum of three days and cannot be recovered once expired. If a student misses the window, you would need to re-upload and share a new link. Upgrading to Ultimate lets you recover expired transfers even retroactively, and also gives you the option to set transfers so they never expire in the first place, which is far more practical for distributing materials that students may need to access throughout a course.
