3D models, CAD assemblies, and render files often need to stay accessible well beyond an initial handoff, whether you're distributing assets to a client, sharing reference geometry with a fabricator, or keeping portfolio work permanently reachable. WeTransfer gives every transfer a unique download link and lets you decide exactly when, or whether, that link ever closes.
Share files that never expire
Designers, engineers, and artists sharing 3D work need recipients to be able to return to files days, weeks, or months after the first download, not race against a countdown before a link goes dark. WeTransfer sends every file exactly as it left your machine, with no compression and no modification, so OBJ, FBX, STL, STEP, ZTL, and other 3D formats arrive with geometry, textures, and metadata fully intact. Each transfer gets a unique link that anyone can open in a browser without creating an account, removing friction for clients, manufacturers, or collaborators on the receiving end. When a project demands tighter control, you can lock a transfer behind a password or restrict access to a specific list of verified email addresses, and download tracking lets you confirm exactly who has retrieved each file. For studios and teams that need shared branding and centralized management across multiple senders, WeTransfer scales to cover the whole workflow.
Our features are designed to minimize how much of your data we — or anyone else — can access, so you can keep what's yours, yours.

All your questions answered.
Yes. On an Ultimate plan or above, you can set any transfer to never expire, meaning your download link stays live until you choose to delete it. That's useful for 3D portfolio pieces, reference assets, or fabrication files that collaborators and clients may need to revisit long after the original send. Free accounts have a maximum expiry of 3 days, so permanent sharing requires a paid plan.
No. WeTransfer sends files in their original state, with no re-encoding, no compression, and no quality loss. A 3D file, whether it's a dense ZBrush sculpt, a multi-part STEP assembly, or a high-poly FBX with embedded textures, arrives on the recipient's end exactly as it left yours. If you're uploading a folder with linked textures and references alongside your model, WeTransfer preserves the original folder structure so nothing gets separated in transit.
WeTransfer supports any file type, so OBJ, FBX, STL, STEP, IGES, GLTF, ZTL, BLEND, C4D, 3DS, and similar formats all transfer without issue. You can bundle geometry files, texture maps, material libraries, and reference images into a single transfer, and recipients can download everything at once or pick individual files to grab separately. There's no format restriction or conversion applied.
On Ultimate and above, expired transfers can be recovered even after the link has closed, and that recovery window applies retroactively, including transfers that expired before you upgraded your plan. Free accounts don't have recovery, so if a link expires there it's gone permanently. If you're regularly sending large 3D assets to clients or production partners, removing expiry or enabling recovery gives you a safety net when deadlines slip.
You can restrict access to a transfer by adding a list of verified email addresses, so only those recipients can open the download link after confirming their identity. Alternatively, a password adds a lighter layer of protection for situations where you want to share a link more broadly but still keep it within a known group. Both options are available on all plans, and you can update the access list or change the password after a transfer has already been sent.
