Password-protected document transfers for telecoms

Telecoms teams handle documents that cannot afford a wrong recipient — network schematics, procurement contracts, regulatory filings, and internal briefings. WeTransfer lets you lock any transfer behind a password before you share the link, so the recipient is prompted to enter it before reaching a single file. No software to install, no IT tickets to raise, and password protection works on every plan.

Keep your files private

Telecommunications work generates a constant flow of sensitive documents: spectrum licensing submissions, vendor agreements, infrastructure proposals, and compliance reports that need to reach specific people and nobody else. When you create a transfer on WeTransfer, a password field sits directly in the upload window, and that password is never included in the notification email WeTransfer sends, so you pass the code to your recipient through whichever channel your security policy calls for. Every document arrives exactly as you uploaded it, whether that is a multi-page PDF, a formatted Word document, a spreadsheet, or a ZIP of technical files, with no compression, no reformatting, and no quality loss. If access needs change after sending, you can add, update, or remove the password on any active transfer from your Transfers panel without touching the original files. For transfers that need tighter control, password protection can run alongside restricted access, which limits downloads to a named list of email addresses so only the people you explicitly authorise can reach the documents even if the link is shared further.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

When you upload your files on WeTransfer, the password field is in the transfer settings panel before you click send. Enter the password you want, complete the transfer, and any recipient who opens the download link is prompted to enter it before any file is accessible. The password is never sent in the WeTransfer notification email, so you share it with your recipient separately through whatever channel your team uses, such as a call, an internal message, or a secure collaboration tool.

Yes. Go to your Transfers panel, open the relevant transfer, and you can set a new password, change the existing one, or remove it entirely. The change takes effect immediately on the live download link, so if a recipient changes or a document needs to be opened more widely, you can adjust access without re-uploading anything. This is useful for iterative documents like regulatory submissions or vendor contracts that move through several stages of review.

No account is needed to download. A recipient clicks the link, enters the password you have shared with them, and downloads the files directly in their browser. This matters for telecoms teams sharing documents with regulators, third-party contractors, or roaming partners who are outside your organisation and unlikely to have a WeTransfer account.

Yes. Password protection and restricted access work together on WeTransfer. Restricted access limits downloads to a specific list of email addresses, meaning a recipient must both have the password and verify they are on your approved list before the files are within reach. For documents like spectrum auction filings, merger due diligence packs, or network security audits, that combination gives you two independent checks on who can open the transfer.

WeTransfer encrypts files in transit using TLS and at rest using AES-256. Files are stored on AWS infrastructure in EU data centers, and WeTransfer is ISO 27001 certified and fully GDPR-compliant. Automated malware scanning runs on every upload, and Data Processing Agreements are available for business plan customers, which is relevant if your telecoms organisation handles personal data subject to regulatory requirements. WeTransfer does not view, sell, or share your files, and content is never used to train AI models.
