Real estate deals move fast and involve documents that can't fall into the wrong hands — contracts, inspection reports, disclosure packages, financial records. WeTransfer lets you lock any transfer behind a password before the link leaves your hands, so only recipients who know it can open the files. No apps to install, no accounts required to download, and password protection is available on every plan.
Keep your files private
When you're coordinating a property transaction, the files you send — signed agreements, title documents, floor plans, mortgage statements — carry information that belongs to specific people and no one else. WeTransfer places a password field right in the upload window, so protection is in place before the download link is ever created. That password is not included in the notification email WeTransfer sends to recipients, which means you choose when and how to pass it along, through a call, your agency's messaging platform, or any channel that already connects you to your client. Every document, photograph, and PDF reaches the other side exactly as you uploaded it, with no compression or quality loss, so high-resolution property photography and multi-page legal packages arrive in perfect condition. If a deal falls through, a party changes, or you simply want to refresh access, you can update or remove the password on any active transfer from your Transfers panel without re-uploading a thing.
Our features are designed to minimize how much of your data we — or anyone else — can access, so you can keep what's yours, yours.

All your questions answered.
When you upload files, you'll find a Password field in the transfer options panel before you click Transfer. Type in your chosen password, finish your upload, and the download link that gets created is locked — recipients are prompted to enter the password before they can access any of the files. You can also add or change a password on a transfer you've already sent by opening it in your Transfers panel and selecting Set password or Change password.
No. WeTransfer never includes the password in the notification email it sends to recipients. You share it separately, through whatever channel makes sense for the transaction — a phone call with your client, your agency's internal messaging system, or a direct text. Keeping the password out of the same email as the download link means a single intercepted message can't unlock the files.
WeTransfer handles any file type without altering it — PDFs, Word documents, spreadsheets, high-resolution property photography, video walkthroughs, floor plans, CAD drawings, and ZIP archives all transfer at exactly the quality you uploaded. There's no re-encoding or compression, so a 4K property tour or a multi-page disclosure package lands with every detail intact.
Yes. In addition to password protection, WeTransfer lets you enable restricted access on any transfer, limiting downloads to a named list of email addresses you specify. Even if someone has the download link and the password, they can only open the files if their email address is on your list — useful when a document is strictly for the buyer, the seller, or a named party on a transaction.
No. Recipients never need to create a WeTransfer account to download or preview files. They click the link, enter the password you've shared with them separately, and download directly in their browser. An account is only required on the sending side, and it's free to create.
