Lock your Photoshop files behind a password

Layers, composites, and raw PSD work deserve to stay between you and the right collaborators. Add a password to any WeTransfer transfer before sending, and anyone who opens the link is asked to enter it before they can reach a single file. No software to install, no complicated setup, and it works on every plan.

Send your first transfer

Keep your files private

Photoshop files hold original layered work that you do not want circulating beyond the people who need it, and a password on your transfer is the simplest way to enforce that. When you upload your PSDs, PSBs, or accompanying assets, a password field sits right inside the upload window, so protection is set before the link ever leaves your hands. WeTransfer never includes the password in the notification email it sends to recipients, which means you choose how to share it, whether over a call, a chat message, or any other channel you already use with that person. Your files arrive exactly as uploaded, with no compression and no re-encoding, so every layer, mask, and adjustment comes through at full fidelity. If your access needs change after sending, you can add, update, or remove the password on any active transfer directly from your Transfers panel without touching the original files.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

When you add your PSD or PSB files to the upload window, look for the password field in the transfer options before you click Transfer. Type in your chosen password, finish the upload, and the link is locked from that moment. Anyone who opens it is prompted to enter the password before they can preview or download anything.

Yes. Go to your Transfers panel, open the transfer details, and you will find options to set a new password, change the existing one, or remove it entirely. The change takes effect immediately, and you do not need to re-upload your files. Just make sure to let your recipient know if you update it.

No. WeTransfer sends your Photoshop files exactly as they are, with no re-encoding, no compression, and no resolution loss. Every layer, smart object, and blend mode comes through intact, so the recipient gets a byte-for-byte copy of what you uploaded.

No account is needed to download. Your client clicks the link, enters the password you shared with them, and the files are theirs to download straight from the browser. The password is the only gate they need to pass through.

Yes. On top of a password, you can enable restricted access on any transfer, which limits downloads to a specific list of email addresses. Even if the link spreads further than intended, only the people you have named can get through. You can manage that list from the transfer details page at any time after sending.
