Lock your photo and video deliveries behind a password

Sharing a shoot with a client should be on your terms. WeTransfer lets you add a password to any transfer before it goes out, so your photos and videos stay hidden until the right person enters the code you set. No apps to install, no extra setup, works on every plan.

Keep your files private

Photographers and videographers put real work into every delivery, and a bare download link gives you no control over who actually opens it. When you add a password to a WeTransfer transfer, the gate is built into the link itself, so your images are completely inaccessible until the recipient clears the prompt. The password never travels inside the notification email, which means you pass it through a separate channel and keep it out of the same thread as the files. Clients can preview your photos and videos directly in the browser before downloading, letting them confirm they have the right files without pulling everything onto their device. If anything changes after you send, you can update or remove the password from any active transfer without re-uploading a single file.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

While your files are uploading, you'll find a Password field in the transfer options panel. Type in the password you want, then send the transfer as normal. Your client will hit a prompt the moment they open the link and won't be able to see or download any of your photos until they enter the correct password. You can also add or change a password on a transfer you've already sent by opening it in your Transfers panel and selecting Set password or Change password.

Password protection is available on every WeTransfer plan, including the free one. There's no upgrade required to lock a transfer before sending it to a client or collaborator. You set the password in the transfer window, and it applies immediately to that delivery regardless of which plan you're on.

No account is needed on the recipient's side. Your client simply opens the link, enters the password you shared with them, and can then preview and download the photos or videos. The password prompt is all that stands between the link and your files, so the experience stays simple for clients who have never used WeTransfer before.

Yes. On top of a password, you can enable restricted access to limit downloads to a specific list of email addresses. This means even someone who knows the password cannot access the files unless their email is on your approved list. For confidential client work, editorial shoots under embargo, or anything you want tightly controlled, combining both layers gives you a stronger hold on who can actually reach your photos.

Once a client enters the correct password, they can preview images and video directly in the browser without downloading anything first. This is useful when clients need to approve a selection or confirm they have the right shoot before committing to a full download. Supported preview formats include JPEG, PNG, TIFF, PSD, RAW formats, MP4, and MOV, among others.
