Photographers and videographers spend hours on soundtrack selections, field recordings, and sync-licensed audio. WeTransfer lets you set a password on any transfer before it goes out, so clients and collaborators hit a prompt the moment they open the link and cannot reach a single file until they enter the correct one. No extra tools, no complicated setup.
Keep your files private
Sharing raw audio, stems, or licensed music with clients means protecting work that carries real commercial and creative value. When you add a password to a transfer in WeTransfer, it is built into the delivery itself, not bolted on afterward, so your audio files are gated from the moment you hit send. The password never travels inside the notification email, which means you pass it through a separate channel you choose, whether that is a direct message, a call, or a project brief. Clients can preview supported audio formats in-browser before downloading, so they can confirm they have the right takes without saving anything to their device. If a project wraps early or a password needs updating, you can change or remove it at any time from your Transfers panel without re-uploading a single file.

All your questions answered.
When you add your audio files to the transfer window, you will find a password field in the transfer options panel before you click send. Type in your chosen password there, complete the transfer as normal, and any recipient who opens the link will be prompted to enter it before they can access anything. The password is case-sensitive and can be any combination of characters you like.
Yes. Go to your Transfers panel, open the transfer, and you will see options to set, change, or remove the password. The change takes effect immediately, so if a client loses the original password or you need to revoke access, you do not need to re-upload your audio files. Just let the relevant people know the new password through your usual channel.
No account is needed on the recipient side. Your client clicks the transfer link, enters the password you shared with them, and can preview or download the audio files straight from their browser. This keeps the handoff frictionless even for clients who have never used WeTransfer before.
Yes. Password protection and restricted access work independently and can be used together on the same transfer. Restricted access limits downloads to a specific list of email addresses, while the password adds a second gate that every visitor must clear regardless. For confidential audio deliverables, layering both controls means only named, verified recipients can ever reach the files.
Once a client enters the correct password, they can play back supported audio formats, including MP3 and WAV files up to 300 MB, directly in the browser without downloading anything first. This is useful when a director or music supervisor needs to approve a track quickly without pulling it onto their device. They can also leave comments on individual files in the preview, making feedback rounds easier.
